Zenobia Faith

It was a snowy May 1st when I got to visit little Z for the second time! (I am already one of her most favorite church ladies!) She is a well loved, beautiful little baby and I am honored and blessed to be friends with her parents. Within the last year I have photographed an engagement, a wedding and a perfect new arrival!  I am so excited to be able to be one of Zenobia’s biggest cheerleaders as she begins to learn and grow. The Robinson household is full of fun, laughter, a little Michael Jackson music, Chicago Bulls games and so much love! Congrats on your new arrival!

Racheal and Paul Robinson - SARAH!!!!!!! YOU ARE AMAZING!!! WE LOVE THESE PHOTOS!!!!!!!!!! we couldn’t ask for better photos! WE LOVE YOU!

Visual Storytelling….and Ice Cream!

I recently finished a month-long course called  Visual Storytelling with the amazing Molly Flanagan. It was tremendously inspiring. For four weeks, we read, watched, chatted and practiced our way towards becoming visual storytellers.  This class was one giant step on my journey towards becoming the photographer that I truly want to be.  The lessons sent me back looking at the work of great photographers of the last 100 years and challenged me to use new skills as I strive to make emotional and meaningful photographs. But it all comes down to story…. to people…. and to telling their stories through one image…. or a series of images. Helping people to remember a moment in time, an experience, a community, a relationship or a special place – it’s what I want to do!

We finally have had a week without snow – so it was time for ice cream! A moment in time…I want to remember that they love to share their ice cream(& germs), that Z & E don’t care that their faces are covered in ice cream, that Z skips with huge leaps, and that they will hold hands and laugh together.

“There are stories all around you, just waiting to be told….”  I can’t wait to tell them!

Racheal Robinson - These are beautiful! I love them! Sarah you are a BEAST!

May Day

When I was a little girl, my mom and my sister and I would make May Baskets and deliver them to the neighbors. I remember being so exited to ring the doorbell and hide – waiting to see someone answer the door and see a little fresh day brightener.  May 1 in Minneapolis was cold and rainy this year – no flowers have even begun to bloom.  A perfect opportunity to begin the tradition of May Day with my own family. It was an evening full of thankfulness as we drove around town dropping off our little May Baskets and enjoying a few special moments surprising some of our favorite people!  I can’t wait until next year!

Breanna - I love this story, so full of happiness!!

Kelly Patton - Great documentation of a wonderful idea. Especially in the cold cold midwest – no doubt you created lots of smiles that day.

Jenny - This is a stunning set of pictures. I was speechless going through all of your images. What a wonderful tradition you are passing onto your children. My favorite image (I think as they are all AMAZING) is the third one of looking out the window at your son. Gorgeous story – thank you for sharing.

suzanne - so great! you nailed it!

sarahswanson - Thanks, Ladies! It was such fun to be a part of this class with you! I can’t wait to see the new stories you tell!

National Library Week

I have never been so excited to celebrate National Library Week!  A few months ago, I spend the afternoon with one of my most favorite families – and they really are family! We had a “library” day! They are a family of teachers and readers – so this session was designed by them and for them! We visited three of their favorite libraries and were even able to finish up our session at their home in front of their very own Little Library!  It was fun to actually look for some books, read a few books and even explore the good ‘ole card catalog!  My cousin Becky talked about how the images make her “heart happy” and these are the kinds of sessions I LOVE to shoot! Thank you for allowing me the privilege of sharing the afternoon with you and helping document one of your favorite things.  Happy Library Week!  I hope you get the chance to go and check out a good book this week!

Kari - I love this! What beautiful pictures and a beautiful family!

JR - Sarah- these are so great. I am excited to see Becky’s book (she is thrilled with your shots)…what a fun way to capture this family that you adore! I am drawn to the black and whites and I love the grainy quality of the one of E and L sitting in the windows by the stairs. Incredible!

Annette - Simply amazing, Sarah….. Love!
Ramgrens – you take fine photos!
